سخنگوی طالبان گفته که پرچم امارات متحده عربی بر فراز سفارت آن در پایتخت افغانستان به اهتزاز درآمد.
ذبیح‌الله مجاهد این را «گام مثبتی» خوانده، و ابراز امیداوری کرده که روابط طرفین «خوب‌تر و محکم‌تر شود.»
امارات متحده عربی کشوری‌ست که اشرف غنی، رئیس جمهوری دولت سرنگون‌شدهٔ افغانستان پس از فرار از کابل، به آن پناه برد.
پاکستان، عربستان سعودی و امارات متحده عربی،، تنها سه کشوری بودند که در دهه ۱۹۹۰ دولت قبلی طالبان را به رسمیت شناختند.
اخیرا شرکت هوایی دولتی آریانا نیز اعلام کرد که پروازهای خود از کابل به مقصد شهر دُبی، شهر مهم تجاری امارات متحده عربی، را از سر می‌گیرد.
پیش از سقوط دولت قبلی، دُبی مقصد بسیاری از افغان‌ها بود و روزانه چندین پرواز بین این شهر و کابل انجام می‌شد.
شمار زیادی از افغان‌ها در امارات متحده عربی کسب‌و‌کار دارند.
